If you want to learn how to maypole dance, you have found the right place!
May Day was originally a festival to celebrate the arrival of spring. One of the traditional dances of this festival is the maypole dance, which involves a group of dancers circling a large pole with ribbons, and then wrapping these ribbons around it in different directions and patterns.
Maypole dancing sessions are an excellent introduction to English traditional dances and their history. Combining physical exercise with teamwork, my maypole dancing workshops are a really fun and creative way to bring people together.
The dances are usually performed to traditional tunes, and the sessions are tailored to age and ability. I run classes for children and adults, at schools and for a variety of events, including weddings.
If you are in the Reading area, I can visit you for a series of sessions over a number of weeks, particularly if you are preparing for a performance.
Coronavirus restrictions have halted most maypole activity this year.
